The Abstract Art of Edward Kazor
Charleston, West Virginia artist Edward Kazor was truly a Renaissance man. A mining engineer by profession he took up painting in 1977 after his wife, Muriel, gave him a watercolor set for Christmas in 1977. That gift began an art exploration which continued until his death earlier this year.
In the years in between he produced lovely florals, landscapes and abstracts in a variety of mediums winning awards from the Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers Society of Washington, DC; LaLuz Gallery in LaLuz, NM; West Virginia Watercolor Society; Tri-State Arts Association and the Miniature Art Society of Florida. Edward Kazor’s work was in the West Virginia Juried Exhibition in 1991 and has been shown in group and solo shows throughout the country.
Kazor was an active member of the West Virginia Watercolor Society, Allied Artists of West Virginia, Tri-State Art Association and the Miniature Art Societies in Florida and New Jersey.
Edward Kazor’s abstract paintings, primarily done in acrylic on paper, evoke impressions of the rock formations which made such an impression on him thoughout his lifelong interest in geology.
The Purple Moon is honored to have been entrusted by Mr. Kazor’s family to present these works and to handle the extensive artwork legacy of Edward Kazor. To view these works please visit the Edward Kazor Gallery page.
Pen and Ink Art by Wm. D. Goebel
It has been fifteen years since the passing of Charleston pen and ink artist William D. (Doug) Goebel. For those of us who knew Doug his absence is felt practically everyday.
What he left behind, in addition to many friends, was a body of work unmatched in our state. With pen in hand, Doug captured not only the architecture but also the spirit and pride of West Virginians. His drawings and prints have become heirlooms in many families and his work graces many homes, offices and public buildings throughout West Virginia.
Few artists have caused us to look so closely into his pictures and at the same time look so closely at our surroundings.
Goebel graduated in 1973 from Concord College, Athens, with a bachelor’s degree in education and in 1979 from the West Virginia College of Graduate Studies with a master’s in education. He took post-master’s work at Columbia and Long Island universities. In 1984, he was a Humanities Fellow at Georgetown University as part of a National Endowment for the Humanities project entitled “The Odyssey Institute.”
The Purple Moon is pleased to offer these original pen and ink drawings as well as limited edition and hand-colored prints, as well as several of his original draft sketches. To view these works please visit the Wm. D. Goebel Gallery page.
